The Adamo On Show

Dell have just launched a fabulous looking ultra-light PC called the Adamo. It’s stylish looks and high price make it an obvious competitor to the Apple Macbook Air. I think that finally other manufacturers are discovering what apple have know for years that the industrial design of your product is as much a feature as its technical specifications.

The Adamo comes with a “Macbook Air like” price tag and will retaill at around $2,000 US. A steep price tag for a machine that isn’t designed to do all the heavy number crunching that designers, gamers and other proffesionals would expect with a price tag like that. The same goes for the Macbook Air. This class of notebook is limited by its size and is no substitue forĀ  a the larger, heavier notebook when it comes to music, video or image editing.

This is probably the beginning of a whole new class of “luxury” computers where brand and coolness mean everything. Apple have almost a 10 year head start but from the looks of the Adamo Dell may hard on there heals.

    NO IT ISN’T!!!

mac didn’t invent ‘thin’ did they, they just made a thin laptop (THAT SUCKS) just because mac had a recent thin laptop doesn’t mean that every thin laptop after that is a copy…fact is Mac weren’t the first one to create a thin laptop, there have been thinner laptops in fact and Mac’s preposterous claim that its the thinnest laptop in the world is just self involved (as always), here is an article that covers all the information I’ve covered with proof http://wehatemacs.com/en-uk/content/view/60/2/

    and also

    and finally

The last one is just good.

please don’t give mac credit where credit isn’t due. they have this image as a cutting edge tech company but they steal ideas just like MS, only they then don’t admit the idea wasn’t theirs to begin with. Ms make it perfectly clear when they buy a whole company just to get the technology. mac just steal it and do it themselves but in a white case.

Hi Drobilliard. You raise some interesting points about the Mac and Apple vs PC. However, this is not what my article is about. If you read my article carefully, I am not praising Apple, the Mac or the Dell Adamo.

I am simply stating that I think that the design and look of a computer product is important and that Apple has recognised this for some time, more so than many PC manufacturers and that perhaps with the Macbook Air and the Adamo, the industrial design of computers while be a new way in which rival manufacturers will compete.

If so then we could be seeing more manufacturers coming up with luxury styled computers like the Macbook Air and the Dell Adamo.
